Giving Credit Where Credit is Due
At SAM, we use Open Source software as much as possible because we feel that it is better and more intuitive than most commercial software and because it allows us to save money on software licenses while giving back to the software community. Open Source software are programs which are completely free and allow any software developer to work on it as part of a community of collaborators. The Open Source development model produces some of the best software because the people who work on it are doing it because they love to.
One of the most successful examples of an Open Source program is the Firefox web browser which has been steadily increasing in popularity since its release.
Open Office has been a great replacement for Microsoft Office and works like a charm with any document format. Thundebird is our email client and it allows us to keep our emails organized and secure. Thank you to all the people who help with Open Source projects. Keep up the great work!
The initial template for this website was designed by Andreas Viklund, who is nice enough to offer many great templates for free. Dmitriy Zasyatkin customized the template to have its current look and feel. Stefanie Spittel helped a lot with the website content and Meg Jeffries digitalized the SAM logo from a sketch created by Dmitriy Zasyatkin. Thank you to all of you, who have helped SAM in any way.
The SAM system is actually not built using Open Source Software because we want to provide the most stable enterprise-level platform for our application, which is currently the ASP.NET 2.0 framework and the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database engine.
